Case Study 3
Even so, after a lifetime of trying western medications and treatment methods the level of anxiety and depression she experienced was still rather intense. Lisa rated her Anxiety levels typically at a 6/10 every day, and depression also at a 6//10 daily that was at it’s worst in the mornings. Lisa mentioned that as she had grown older she had learned not to fight against her feelings of depression and anxiety so much and that had made things a little easier. Lisa felt that her mental health problems were caused by an unhappy family life with physical and emotional abuse when she was a child and also being in an abusive relationship as an adult.
As is common with mental health disorders, Lisa’s sleep quality was very poor, it took her 3 hours to get to sleep on average, and then she would always have a very light sleep with frequent waking because of needing to keep going to the toilet all through the night. The doctors had put this down to a prolapsed uterus. Some of the other complains Lisa presented with were hard fibrous lumps or cysts growing on her back all the time (non-cancerous) and quiet severe perspiration where her clothes would become very wet, especially under her armpits. Lisa had been getting botox injections which had helped reduce her level of sweating, but it was still a problem. Lisa had diverticulitis which she controlled through diet, however she would still get a flare-up on average 1x every 2 months. Lisa also had arthritis in her foot which was caused during her younger years when she did a lot of running and marathon competition. Bowen helped but as is very common with osteoarthritis, the pain always returned again at some stage. After assessing Lisa’s face, coupled with taking all her symptoms into account, I selected Sulph 30 as the homeopathic remedy to be taken once a day and to follow up with me in a month’s time. Results at 1 month follow-up At the one month followup Lisa had some decent progress. I have listed the progress of the various ailments at the one month mark. Anxiety had improved 25% Depression had improved 50% Delayed sleep - 80% improvement Frequently waking to go to the toilet – 80% improvement Cysts on her back – no new cysts Severe perspiration – 50% improvement Diverticulitis – Haven’t noticed it Overall this was very promising so I told Lisa to continue with the same remedy however to increase the dosage to 2x per day and to follow up with me in a month’s time. Results at 2 month follow-up At the next follow-up appointment the progress we had made after the first month held steady, but Lisa’s anxiety had improved another 25% as well as small improvements with her perspiration and arthritis, however her sleep had slipped backwards. Below you can see how Lisa rated these problems. Anxiety had improved 50% (extra 25%) Depression had improved 50% (same as last month) Delayed sleep - 70% improvement (10% worse than last month) Frequently waking to go to the toilet – back to waking 4-5x per night, however was falling asleep again quiet quickly Cysts on her back – no new cysts Severe perspiration – 60% improvement (extra 10% improved) Arthritis – 20% improvement (same as last month but had been able to walk further) Diverticulitis – Haven’t noticed it For the next month I decided to increase the strength of the medicine, and gave Lisa Sulphur again but at 200c strength to be taken 1x per day to see if we could get a bit more improvement. Results at 3 month follow-up Next month Lisa said that she had been feeling quiet irritable lately. She said she had been feeling the cold a bit more this winter, and that she had been bruising quiet easily. She was still waking frequently to go to the toilet at night too. In general Lisa said she still felt improved, and she was able to give a speech at her recent 70th birthday party, where previously her level of anxiety would have made that impossible. I explained to Lisa that sometimes during the healing process there can be ups and downs, but we were still much further ahead than when we first began. It seemed that Lisa’s body liked the weaker remedy given just 1x per day, so we reverted back to the original remedy from the 1st month and I told Lisa to report back in another month. Results at 4 month follow-up At her next appointment Lisa seemed very happy with how her body had been responding to the homeopathy. It seemed her body liked the lower dose of the remedy better and the feelings of being irritable, feeling cold, and bruising easily had gone again. Lisa’s sleep had returned to being much improved without the frequent waking. Below is how Lisa rated her symptoms: Anxiety 2/10 (started at 6/10) Depression 3/10 (started at 6/10) Delayed sleep – Now sleeps great Frequently waking to go to the toilet - Very rarely waking to go to the toilet at night Cysts on her back – still no new cysts after 4 months Severe perspiration – 80% better and no botox injections Arthritis – Still did feel sometimes but was improved, and felt like it was continuing to improve Diverticulitis – Still haven’t noticed it Lisa commented on how amazed she was at how good she was sleeping, as well as her perspiring being so much better and having not even had botox injections, which had been costing her hundreds of dollars. There was also significant improvement in her anxiety and depression, and Lisa asked me if I thought she could see her doctor about stopping or reducing her pharmaceutical anti-depressants. I suggested since she had been on them such a long time and things were looking pretty good right now, it would probably be best not to change anything for the moment at least and just enjoy the results as they were. Discussion Sometimes there needs to be some tweaking of remedy strengths or changing to different remedies in the same family to get the most out of homeopathy. Sometimes there can also be some stiring up of symptoms as your body repairs, a bit like when you first start going to the gym there can be some soreness as your body adapts, but ultimately there will be benefit to your health. I remember at a later date the stress in Lisa’s life increased for a period, and she found that her sleep troubles started returning and her anxiety and depression started getting worse again. I just increased the dose temporarily to help her body deal with the additional stress, which brought her body back into balance again, relieving her symptoms. Later when the stress in her life returned back to normal levels, we again reduced the dose and her body remained in balance with improved symptoms. Sometimes western medicines alone are not enough to relieve a clients symptoms, however in this case using natural homeopathic medicine we were able to help support Lisa’s body and bring it back into balance, and in turn her mood stabilized to provide significant improvement in her anxiety and depression. The same medicine also made it so that she no longer needed to have expensive and toxic botox injections for her heavy perspiration, along with further relieving her other symptoms also. The remedies are cheap, costing only $10 for a month’s supply, and being completely safe with no chemical side effects or interactions with western medicine in over 200 years of use, Homeopathy is a terrific choice for chronic health complaints. Case Study 2
Mary had been diagnosed with Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) a rare autoimmune disorder where the blood platelets inside the blood are reduced and so the capability of the body to stop bleeding is reduced. She also had a history of migraines and although in recent times she experienced them only 1x every 3 weeks, she rated them as being very severe at a 10/10
Her cognitive function and energy felt depleted, and she rated the significance of this at 7/10. She had chronic insomnia where she woke frequently during the night feeling restless. Mary’s periods were regular although they contained lots of clots/tissue/fibrous bits along with a burning sensation over the past 3 months. Mary had quiet a few other complaints that I have listed below along with their intensity as a rating out of 10. CPTSD where she had a feeling of feeling stuck, restricted, trapped, freighted and couldn’t escape. Dry hair 7/10 Ears became stuffy, on average 3 days per week rated at 6/10 Nose bleeds 6-7 days per week on waking Voice had random weird pitch changes mid speech, which had been going on for a few years Hives on her skin which Mary described as being very itchy and dry. She was able to control it temporarily with steroid cream, however as soon as she stopped using the cream the hives would return. This had been going on for 6 months and she believes it started occurring after she went in a float tank. A history of very bad Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) but Mary was able to control this by sticking to a FOODMAP diet. After assessing Mary’s face, coupled with taking all her symptoms into account, I selected Calc 30 as a homeopathic remedy to be taken once a day and to follow up with me in a months time. Results at one month follow-up At the one month followup Mary had some decent improvement. I have listed the progress of the various ailments at the one month mark below. The Dystonia (spasms) she hadn’t noticed but the botox was still in effect. Raynaud’s + cramping hands & feet now 2-3/10 started at 6/10 after botox. Migraine – did have one but much less intense. Cognitive energy improved so that the problem was rated at 3/10 but at the 1 month followup appointment mark came back to the original 7/10 Ears stuffy 0/10 was 6/10. Nose bleeds – none, was every day Voice pitch changing - doesn't know hasn't talked much in lockdown Skin hives slight improvement Sleep with frequent waking 85% improvement although still not super refreshed in the morning Mary reported that her body didn’t feel as cold as it usually did One negative thing Sally noticed was that her period came 1 week early, which was different from normal, she was usually very regular, however her period was less heavy. I explained that sometimes during the healing process things can change a bit, but overall she had some good improvements so we should continue with the prescription, but for the next month she should double the dose to 2x per day. Results at 2 month follow-up Next month when I saw Mary for her second follow-up she had improved further. She admitted that she had missed the 2nd dose of the medicine 50% of the time, but she still had made very good progress. Below i have listed her progress with her various ailments. Dystonia spasms (60-70% improvement) on top of what she would expect usually this far out from her regular botox injections. Raynauds + cramping hands & feet 1-2/10 now, started at 6/10 after botox Migraine – none and no headaches either, started at 10/10 1x every 3 weeks CPTSD (Feeling stuck/frightened) - gone Cognitive energy got better than it did last month and stayed improved with the problem being rated at 2-3/10, started at 7/10 Ears stuffy – gone, was 6/10 Nose bleeds – gone, was 6-7 days per week on waking Voice pitch changing –gone, voice is normal now, Speech & word loss (3/10) was 5/10 Period back to 28 days and less heavy but still some clotting Skin hives 1x small patch only and no steroids, Hair Dryness – now rated at a 2/10, was a constant 7/10 Insomnia and sleep with frequent waking now dropped back to 50% improvement and still not super refreshed in the morning, was at 85% improvement last month, Body not as cold Mary was really starting to make some significant progress now. I decided to increase the strength of her medicine to 200C so that it could provide more healing power, whilst she only needed to take it 1x per day. Later followup I have seen Mary since our last treatment, not for a Homeopathic consult but for Bowen Therapy. She says that her sleep returned to much improved, and more refreshing soon after we increased the strength of her medicine at her last appointment. I remember her telling me her skin/hives had been going really well without the steroids. The progress we had made had continued to hold and indeed continued to improve. She did report having a bit of a setback after having her COVID injection, but I advised her to adjust her dose and within two weeks she had recovered and continued to improve in many areas. She also mentioned to me that she had had a blood test and her blood platelets were in the normal range for the first time in 13 years, and the only things she had done differently in that time was take the homeopathic medicine and get the COVID jab. Case Discussion Using natural homeopathic medicine we were able to help support Mary’s body to be able to heal it’s self from conditions that western medicine were unable to treat as effectively as Mary would have liked. She previously had been coping by just doing less, and mentioned that her life was just getting smaller and smaller due to her inability to live life to the full because it would cause all her conditions to flare up. When I saw Mary last she seemed very happy and optimistic, she sounded like she felt in control of her health again. She had just come back from a long hike and was able to live life to the full again. Homeopathic medicine is natural, and in 200 years of use has proved to have no side effects or interactions with western medicine. The remedies are cheap, costing only $10 for a month’s supply. What Causes a Headache? There are two types of headaches. Primary headaches are caused due to excessive activity of the pain-sensitive parts in the head. Examples include cluster headaches, migraine, tension headaches etc. A secondary headache on the other hand, is a symptom of a disease that activate the pain-sensitive nerves in the head. For example, acute sinusitis, blood clots, brain tumour, concussion etc. can cause a secondary headache. When to Seek Treatment for Headaches Headaches are usually managed by people with OTC pain relief medications like Panadol, Ibuprofen, Codeine etc. once the headache has already started.
If you are somebody who uses pain relief medication 2-3 times per week or 10 days per month, the pain relief medication can stop helping with the pain, and can actually cause headaches. These repetative headaches are known as 'Medication Overuse Headaches (MOH)'. In these cases it could be especially helpful to seek an alternative method of reducing your headaches. Bowen Therapy has proven to be very successful in treating many different types of headaches with clients at my clinic. Tension often builds up around the neck, head and jaw, causing the pain. Sometimes there can also be misalignments elsewhere in the body that can be contributing to reoccuring headaches.
