Frequently Asked Questions
Here are a some of the questions I frequently get asked...
How long does it take to work?
Although everybody is different, and it depends on how long somebody has been experiencing the pain, typically what happens is:
After the first session: Sometimes people can feel a little tender the following day as their body begins healing it's self. This usually sorts it's self out by the third day and an improvement may be noticed. A few days later often the original pain returns. Occasionally no improvement may be noticed after the first session, however what we are looking for is any change, an increase in pain the day after is actually a good sign that there is great progress to be made next session. After the second session: In most cases there is no tenderness after the second session and a significant improvement is experienced. This improvement usually goes on to last the following week or so. |
After the third session: The third session works to increase the resistance to re-injury, and makes the healing results more permanent.
Three sessions usually provides a solution for acute cases, however for somebody who has been living in pain for several years, it is likely to take a bit longer.

I had Bowen Therapy before but there were no 'waits' between the moves?
Bowen Therapy is sometimes combined with other therapies and the waiting periods omitted. Of course then it is not pure Bowen Therapy. While Bowen can still be effective without the waits, for maximum benefit and the best results a waiting period is given between certain moves to allow the body to react to the Bowen moves performed.
When I do seated demonstrations for donations at fund raisers outside of my clinic I may omit some waiting periods, however that is simply due to timing constraints and to increase the number of people I can help.

Bowen Treatment
Using the Bowen Technique we can increase blood flow and circulation for the healing of many ailments. Further details about Bowen Therapy can be found on the What is Bowen Therapy Page.
Exercise Recommendations
While the Bowen Therapy will work on it's own, doing some light stretching at home can speed up the process and make your body more resistant to re-injury. Before leaving I will go through some exercises with you to make sure you understand how to do them, and give you a sheet to take home with you for later reference.
How long is a session and how much does it cost?
Appointments typically go for around 40mins - 1 hour (depending on how long it takes to fix the problem) and are generally required 3 times, each one week apart. Considerable improvements are commonly seen after the first session. The cost is $100 for an Initial full Bowen Treatment (40-60mins), $80 for Follow-up Targeted Treatments (20-30 mins), and $70 for Children under 8 years old.
